First Week of Kindergarten

Hi Teacher Friends!  This summer has been a busy one here.  I moved classrooms with the help of my sister.  She is such a good sport but after we finished the move, she said "you are NOT moving classrooms again!"  I agree with her.  It was a lot of work but well worth it.  I gained more floor space, a storage closet, and two bathrooms (one for the girls and one for the boys).  I hope to get a few pictures posted of my new room.

We just completed our first week of kindergarten.  I have a great group of little kinders and we are learning procedures and routines with lots of practice, practice, and more practice.
Here are a few things we completed together as a group.

To help my new kindergarten kids remember what to do each morning, we created this anchor chart together.  Hopefully this will help those forgetful kiddos to put their folders in the basket.  :)

We always start off kindergarten with a unit of colors.  The kids' homework assignment is to bring in a picture of a certain color.  We then create Circle Maps for each color.  Here are our maps for yellow, blue, and green.  I finally put on my thinking cap this year and laminated the background paper.  Now I don't have to keep creating the map, I'll be able to use these again next year.  The kids' pictures are just taped on.

We have been learning about school workers and school rules.  We created this chart to help us learn faces and jobs at school.  (The ovals covering our faces were added for the internet to protect privacy.)

We have been practicing reading this poem as we learn color words.  I have seen this poem on several websites.  I was not able to locate the author.  If you know who wrote this great poem, please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due.

That's all for now.  Have a great weekend!
