Workin' On It on Thursday?

Hi Teacher Friends!  Well here it is Thursday and I planned on linking up with the Kindergals on Wednesday for their Workin On It Linky but now it is Thursday.
I'm just a day late and a dollar short.  Oh, my!  My only excuse, I'm on summer time! :)

Thanks to Kim and Megan for hosting this fun linky.  I love reading about everyone's projects.

(Font used on color word tags is from Cara Carroll)

This is what I've been working on.  I updated these color word titles for the Circle Maps we complete at the beginning of kindergarten.  Since most of our kinderkids come to us knowing their colors, my kindergarten team and I usually focus on one color a day. We have the kids bring in a picture of the color of the day for homework.  Each child gets the opportunity to show and share their picture brought in.  I then help  my class create Circle Maps with the homework pictures after everyone has shared.

 Have a great day!

Favorite Books Linky

Hi Teacher Friends!  We are joining in with Mrs. Jump's favorite books linky.

Do you know Mrs. Wishy-Washy?  I hope you do.  These stories are so much fun.
Each year as I read these books to the kids, the kids laugh and then begin this "I'm the dog" ,  "No, I'm the dog" debate.  It can go on and on and it doesn't matter what character.  One will say "I'm the duck" and then someone else will say "No, I'm the duck"!
Does your class do this?

We use the little animals, the apron, small bucket and scrub brush to act out and retell the story events.  We also sequence the story events.

This is one of our projects from the TLC's More People book.  (This is the woman project from the book.) We try to make these each year as we learn about letter Ww and read about Mrs. Wishy-Washy's adventures. Here is the link to TLC's website.

Have a great summer day everyone!

Workin' on It Wednesday Linky with the Kindergals!

Hi Teacher Friends!  We are joining in on the fun with the Kindergals, Kim and Megan.  Their fun linky to show what you are working on to help make the back to school rush easier.  We want to send out a big THANK YOU to the Kindergals for hosting this linky.

I've only been out of school for a week and a half, so I'm just taking it easy and thinking about back to school.  I haven't actually started printing or laminating or cutting out things yet.  Last week, my sister and I went up to my school.  I needed her help with moving a bookcase. I had pushed and pulled on that shelf trying to get it to move just a little bit.  I didn't want to have to unload that shelf.
We have to have everything off the walls and the marker boards.  We also have to have all the cables from the Smartboard, VCR/DVD player, etc. rolled up and put away for the summer. I needed that shelf to move.

While we were there, my principal asked me if I wanted to take a set of teacher's manuals for the new math curriculum.  Of course, I said "Sure!"  We have used Saxon Math for several years and this new curriculum will certainly be different.

So here's what I have managed to get done.  The box is open and volume one is out of the box.
Baby steps, baby steps.  It's summer for Pete's sake!  ;)

Have a great Wednesday!

Favorite Books Linky ~ Let's Talk About Books!

Hi Teacher Friends!  Well, it's Tuesday again and that means it is time to join Mrs. Jump's fun "We Love Books" linky this summer.  We would like to send out a big THANK YOU to Mrs. Jump for hosting this linky.

My students love the series of Bear books by Karma Wilson with illustrations by Jane Chapman.  They can't get enough of the adventures of Bear and his friends.

I love the illustrations as well as the stories in this series.  One of my favorite illustrations is from the Christmas story Bear Stays Up for Christmas when Bear is sooooo sleepy and his eye lids are sooooo heavy but he tries to stay up for Christmas.   I love the story in  Bear Feels Sick.  The animals show such kindness to their friend Bear while he is under the weather.  Then Bear returns the kindness when his friends become sick. These are great lessons that all kindergarten kids can learn from.

Continuing along with the bear theme is this book.  My class really enjoyed this book.  They asked me to read this book over and over again.  :)
Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians by Jackie Mims Hopkins.

This book follows the adventures of Goldie Socks and her love of books.  It has a great surprise ending that my class loved!

I so enjoyed reading about all the great books that others shared on Mrs. Jump's linky last week.   I can't wait to check out all the new additions this week.

Hope you have a great day!

Let's Talk About Books-Favorite Book Linky

Hi Teacher Friends!  The school year is over and summer break has started.  :)  No more early alarm clocks, no more paperwork deadlines, and no more long commutes at least until August rolls around.

We are joining in with Mrs. Jump's fun, favorite books linky.
(I'm just a day late, but it's summer break right?)

The librarian at my school shared this book with me about two years ago.  I was on the lookout for  wordless picture books to use as part of a lesson.  She suggested this book and I am so glad she did.  My kindergarten class loved it and asked me to read it again and again.  When I tried to check out the book this year, the librarian told me it had been lost and she was ordering another copy of the book.  So, I had to wait until the new copy arrived to share it with this year's kindergartners.  It was worth the wait.

Chalk by Bill Thomson

The book begins with three friends walking to the park on a rainy day.  They find a bag with sidewalk chalk in it.  The three friends do what all little kids do with sidewalk chalk, they begin to draw pictures on the concrete.  Then the action begins!  I don't want to give away any of the great adventures the kids have in the fun book.  Be sure to share this book with your class.  It is sure to become a class favorite.

If  you are still in school, hang in there summer break is just around the corner.  If your school is out for the summer, we hope you are enjoying your summer break!
