Presidents' Day

Hi Teacher Friends!  Here are a few projects we completed for Presidents' Day.  First are our George Washington portraits from TLC Lessons.  We used the lessons from Kaye Espinosa's TLC Winter Book.  The kids always love completing a TLC project.  It never ceases to amaze me how different the projects always turn out.  The expressions are priceless.  Here is a link to Kaye's site www.tlclessons.com

(The eyes on this one make me smile.)  We read a few great books about George Washington's life.  The kids were fascinated to learn that George only had one natural tooth in his mouth when he became President and that he wore false teeth made from hippo teeth, cow teeth and human teeth!

These are our directed drawing lesson on Abraham Lincoln.  I found this project on Victoria Smith's Kinder Korner website.  Here is the link to her amazing site.  www.kinderkorner.com    Be sure to check it out when you have plenty of time to look around.  She has so-o-o many ideas to share.

Five year olds always amaze me with their talent.  They were not afraid to attempt drawing these.  :)  The kids loved the fact that Abe Lincoln kept important papers tucked inside his hat.  We discussed what each one of us would keep inside our tall hats.  I'll have pictures to share of that next week.

Have a great weekend.  :)

Valentines

Hi Teacher Friends!  Hope you survived Valentine's Day.  :)  Here is a picture of the Valentine gift that my students made to give to their families.  We used the bear from Kaye Espinosa's TLC Beginning Lessons book.  I changed the color of the bear from brown to pink and white.  We added a small heart on each bear's paw that said "I love you beary much!"  I also added a picture of each child from our Teddy Bear day in the center of each bear.  (The white rectangle in the picture is for privacy reasons.) Here is a link to Kaye's TLC Lessons site.  Be sure to check it out.  www.tlclessons.com

How do you like that slide?  I would like to send a big THANK YOU to Alessia Albanese for sharing how to add the cute backgrounds and make a super cute slide to add to your blog posts.  I followed her directions and she made it so easy to do.  Thanks a bunch for sharing!  Here is a link to her great site:  http://mrsalbanesesclass.blogspot.com .

Hope you have a great week at school.  :)

(The red polka dot background is from Microsoft Clipart.  I used the shape feature to add the hearts.)

100th Day Fun

Hi Teacher Friends!  We celebrated the 100th day of school this past week.  We completed these 100 year old portraits from Deanna Jump's 100th day unit. http://mrsjumpsclass.blogspot.com
They turned out so-o-o cute!  We had to share.

(Look at that mustache!)

(Love the earrings!)

We counted and made our 100th day snack from Growing Kinders 100th Day Unit. http://growingkinders.blogspot.com

Our 100 link paper chain.

100th day door display.
The idea for the door display is from Mrs. Fischer's Kinder Themes.  www.kinderthemes.com
Instead of using bulletin board paper, I used a twin size sheet and craft foam stars so I could use this display year after year.

Hope your 100th day was lots of fun!

More Writing with Kinderkids

Hi Teacher Friends!  Can you believe it is February?  Where did January go?  As I change out the snowmen in our classroom for hearts here are a few writing samples from my kinderkids.  We have been using Deanna Jump's and Deedee Wills' writing units.  These units are amazing!  My kinderkids are writing up a storm.  Be sure to check out Deanna's and Deedee's sites.  I am so thankful that these two great teachers pooled their talents and created such an amazing resource for fellow teachers.  Here are links:  http://mrsjumpsclass.blogspot.com   and www.mrswillskindergarten.com .

I really wanted to go on an airplane.

So maybe I can go to the airport.  And I am going to go to the Grand Canyon.

And it will be fun.

Writing Sample #3  (I have a group of lil kindergirls this year that are HORSE CRAZY.  All they want to write about is horses.  Which is fine by me.  This country girl couldn't agree more, horses are AWESOME!)

I Have a Horse

I have a horse and I love him and I ride him.

I love my horse and there is a new born baby colt and she is eating with her mom.

I like my horses and I love them.  The end.

Here is another item to share.  I used this idea from Reagan at Tunstalls Teaching Tidbits.  To introduce a new unit of study, she places pictures on the student desks.  Her students take a picture walk and write down questions or observations about the pictures.  I did this with my kinderkids to introduce our new science unit this week.  We are learning about weather.  My kinderkids LOVED this.  There were so many oooohs and aaaaahs.  We would like to send a big THANK YOU to Reagan for sharing this neat idea.  Here is a link to her great blog.  http://tunstalltimes.blogspot.com.  Be sure to check it out.

Have a great week at school.  :)

More Teddy Bear Day Fun

Hi Teacher Friends!  We have been busy completing middle of the year assessments.  We are almost finished.  (Yeah!)  I just have to assess the kiddos on their sight words.

Since we were testing this past week, we continued with a little more teddy bear fun.  My class loves the stories about Corduroy.  We created these super cute lil bears from TLC's Pre-K August - December book.  I changed the color of the lil bear's overalls to match that of Corduroy's green overalls.  I added a writing element by having the kids finish the sentence "If Corduory belonged to me, I would ..."  The kids did such a great job.  Here is a link to TLC's site: www.tlclessons.com  Be sure to check it out.  :)

Here is a little sneak peek of some of our 100th day of school prep work.

These are our 100th day of school hats drying.  Oh, yes, that is glitter you see.  GLITTER!
Glitter on a Friday afternoon on a week that had a full moon in it.
Oh, it is fun to be in kindergarten.  :)

Have a great weekend.
