A Little St. Patrick's Fun

Hi Teacher Friends!  Since St. Patrick's Day fell on a Sunday and when we were on spring break, my students and I enjoyed a little fun this past week with all things green.  We read several fun books about leprechauns and St. Patrick's Day.  Then, we were one step behind that tricky lil leprechaun all week.  He kept messing things up in our classroom.

Patterns blocks all over the play kitchen area!
Extra crayons all over the carpet squares!
We also found scraps of paper all over the floor and our carpet square rug turned completely around.
The kinderkids were so-o-o-o excited each time we returned to our classroom and found the leprechaun's mischief and shenanigans.  It was difficult to snap a few pictures.  They had all the stuff picked up and put back in place before I could grab my camera!  :)
By Friday, we had hatched a plan.  We were going to build traps and catch that lil leprechaun.
I got four paper boxes from the office for the kids to use as traps.  The boys and girls had so much fun decorating.  I put out green and yellow construction paper and the kids went to work.  I could hear their discussions and they were so cute.  They worked so hard sounding out "free gold".  I loved how they worked together at each table.
Here is the message that our lil leprechaun left for us on Friday afternoon.
In other news, my sister found these cute felt bags at Walmart in the Easter section.  They are similar to ones we have found in the Target dollar pins except they are not as heavy.  I plan on using these for our centers this week.
We hope everyone has a great week at school.  :)

Practicing Those Tricky Blends

Hi Teacher Friends!  Well spring break is winding down and it's back to work for me on Monday.  The school year is going by so QUICKLY!   The next thing you know, we will be getting ready for kindergarten graduation.  We still have lots of work to do.
We have been busy getting a new packet on TpT.  It is all about blends.   We have included a variety of blends so your students (and mine) will have lots of practice identifying blends.  We included 94 blend puzzles as well as individual picture cards and headings to use for making anchor charts with the whole class.  If your are interested in checking this out, here is the link  We have it on sale for this weekend.
My kinderkids and I are going to have those tricky blends under control after we return from spring break.  Sometimes I think that learning blends is just as tricky to the boys and girls as learning those teen numerals.
If it's back to work on Monday for you, we hope you have a great week at school!  If you are beginning your spring break, we hope you enjoy your week!  :)

Math, Writing, and Social Studies

Hi Teacher Friends!  Here are a few things we have been working on this week.  We finished our lessons about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.   After reading the book, Abe Lincoln's Hat, we wrote what we would keep inside our own tall hat.

I would keep my dad's picture in my hat.
I would keep love in my hat.
I would keep a teddy bear in my hat.
I would keep the state flag in my hat.
We created these Abraham Lincoln projects from the Kaye Espinosa's TLC's Winter Book.  Here is a link to Kaye's site.  Kaye also has her books on TpT.
Our George Washington directed drawing lessons came from Victoria Smith's Kinder Korner site.  Here is a link to this amazing site.  Be sure to check it out.  She has an amazing amount of ideas shared on her site.

We have been working on measurement in Math.  The kids loved working with the balances.
We also have been practicing beginning addition.  I saw the idea for the floor ten frame on Deeanna Golden's great site.  (Here is a link to her great site. )  She made a ten frame on a large piece of felt.  I didn't have a large piece of felt, so I just put tape on the floor and created a ten frame there.  I divided the kids into a boys' team and a girls' team.  One boy and one girl each rolled one of the large foam dice.  The boy student then picked boys to build the number he rolled and the girl student picked girls to build the number she rolled.  Next we combined the two groups and filled in the ten frame to practice adding.
The kids had a great time with this activity.
We are working hard on our writing.  The kids have come so far!  I have posted before how much I enjoy using Deanna Jump's and Deedee Wills' writing units.  My students are much further along with their writing this year and I know it is because of these ladies' units.  Here are links to their sites.
Be sure to check out their sites if you haven't already.
I like dinosaurs because they are cool but they are extinct.
My favorite is the T-Rex and the Brachiosaurus.
The End.
My dog barks so much.  I love my dog so much.  She loves me so much.  She has brown fur and she likes her brown fur.  Her brown fur is shiney.  She is the best dog.
I know that is a lot to share.  Thank you for getting through it all.  :)
My spring break starts today!  I hope you have a great spring break.
If your break has not started yet, hang in there it's just around the corner.
